48 Hour Film Festival Team Odds and Evens in Las Vegas

I almost forgot about this adventure, happened way back in 2006.
I did the 48 Hour Film Festival with fellow filmmakers, Dave, Rich, Samson, Joel, me and what was his name? Jason? We woke up before dawn, brought a bunch of equipment up, stayed in a motel outside of North Las Vegas, and began.

We showed up to the contest and got the information we needed.
1) Genre: Thriller
2) Object: Hairspray
3) Line: "Looks like we'll have to do that over again"

Then we went out drinking and eating while we thought of a concept. There was tequila and Rich mentioned a werewolf idea. We shot it down and came up with a billion more ideas that just didn't work. Rich got sick went to bed as the rest of the team stayed up and tried to think of an idea. When Rich woke up, he mentioned the werewolf idea again and this time, we were all on board. Wasted a bunch of time that night.

The next morning by afternoon the script was developed, I went to pick up props and Joel did a time lapse of the sun as it moved across the desert sky. We started shooting that night through to the next day. The shooting went very well. We started to work on sound and editing through that night as well. The day crept up and our deadline was 5pm.

Once it was turned in we relaxed a bit and started to go out and see Vegas until the next morning. We all seemed a bit insane by this time. If you haven't counted that's 5 sunrises I saw without sleep. That went for most of the crew. We were crazy people. Well worth the experience.

The short was called Social Cravings.
"When your firends start going missing and you think you may be the reason"

A man (Rich) wakes up with dirt under his nails and sick. Thinking he's partied too hard and can't remember much.  His friend (Sam) shows up with a sandwich and asks if he saw Jack. Jack drinks Jack and last anyone heard he hung out last night with Rich, and there is a bottle of Jack on the counter but Rich doesn't remember. Sam goes to the bathroom and noticed strange items like lipstick and hairspray. Rich and Sam hang out until night falls, they are walking about and suddenly Rich starts "morphing" into a creature and goes after Sam. Next morning and not remembering much, he wakes up to a knock at his door. It's a girl asking if he has seen Sam. The next victim has arrived. End.

"Xing"

Watch the Trailer
IMDB Page
Working once again with this crew brings me out of my daily work grind. Since I moved to being a full time accountant (because Hollywood sucks!!!) They asked me to join them on the shoot Xing and I said yes.
Rosa, Erik and everyone on this shoot have been great and we have been an quintessential crew for some time now. It's is actually fun to meet up with everyone again and again doing what we love.
 This is the kickstarter page:

"Shooting a proof of concept of XING: a “Musical Drama” film which pays tribute to the original rave scene and electronic dance music."

About the rave scene in the 90's a experience like no other. And do I mean no other, after our work day the "club" we were shooting actually turned into an event... full on Rave scene with some of the best DJ's around.
